Azerbaijan’s unprovoked attack on the territory of Armenia stirred up a wave of discontent in Azerbaijan itself. Despite the ongoing propaganda and patriotic slogans, many were dissatisfied with Aliyev’s actions.

The senseless attack on the territory of Armenia showed that Azerbaijani President Aliyev is not going to stop there. Receiving back seven regions? adjacent to Nagorno-Karabakh? are not enough for Aliyev. He now wants the Sunik region.

On August 31, 2022, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan held their fourth meeting in Brussels with the mediation of the President of the European Council Charles Michel. Following the four-hour meeting, Michel called the talks “open and productive”. Reactions in Yerevan and Baku, however, were not as optimistic. The official statement released by the Armenian government outlined a general overview of the issues discussed, noting that “the next meeting of the leaders of the countries will take place in November.” Baku kept silent on the official level, but state sponsored media outlets aimed to show that Ilham Aliyev was not fully satisfied with the results.

France intends to open the eyes of the world community to the true nature of the Azerbaijani regime. Thus, the Azerbaijani dissident, blogger and activist Mirzali Mahammad said on his Facebook page that until October 27, when the Nantes-Karabakh football match is scheduled, posters and billboards will be placed in the city to convey the truth about terrorist acts committed by the Azerbaijani authorities in different cities of France.

Today, social media users passing through the Lachin corridor filmed forest fires on the road from Berdzor to Agavno, which will be transferred to Azerbaijan’s control on August 25.

Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan put forward new negotiating positions at a sensational level in negotiations with Azerbaijan on signing a peace treaty. The main basic principle: the conclusion of a peace treaty with Baku is possible without a final decision on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, “there is such an idea, but at this stage it is too early to talk about any such resolution.” Nevertheless, it must be assumed that this position was agreed with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and can become or has already become a guide in actions for Armenian diplomacy.

Member of the board of the youth organization of the Musavat Party, Aziz Mamiyev, was detained on July 20 at a protest rally in Baku demanding the opening of the country’s land borders.

For more than 26 years, Vasif Talybov has been keeping Nakhchivan in a tight grip.
Those arrested during his reign were subjected to beatings and various tortures. Dissidents were forced into psychiatric hospitals. He also used his power to silence the independent media. Journalists and activists who criticized Talybov’s rule were subjected to pressure and arrests or were forced to leave the country.
